Calcium Reactors

Calcium carbonate reactors have become a popular way of replacing the calcium and carbonate taken up by corals in the process of calcification.

A calcium reactor is a simple, convenient solution for this which when used to maintain calcium and alkalinity in your reef aquarium. They will require little maintenance after the initial setup and is considered a important for tanks heavily stocked with stony corals, where a high calcium and alkalinity demand is needed.

Saltwater Aquarium

In a marine aquarium or a reef aquariums, a calcium reactor is a device that when  used will create a balance of alkalinity in the aquarium system. The acidic solution which is produced by injecting carbon dioxide into a chamber which mixes with a calcium and salt water media.

The result is the carbon dioxide will lower the pH, dissolving the calcium media, and producing a solution high in carboxylic acid. The effluent is then returned to the marine or reef aquarium where the calcium is consumed by organisms, primarily corals when building skeletons. A calcium reactor is one of the most efficient methods of supplying calcium to a reef aquarium.
